Friends all say that Harbin in summer is as beautiful as a fairy tale, but this little city I casually visited after Harbin completely enchanted me!
It's the closest Chinese city to Russia: Heihe!!! Not only is it scenic and uncrowded, but it's also brimming with charm.
In the northeastern region, Heihe may not be as famous as Harbin or Mohe, but once you get to know it, you can't help but fall in love—because it’s truly stunning!!!
If you want to experience exotic vibes, come to Heihe; it's the nearest port city to Russia, filled with Russian-style charm that makes you feel like you’ve traveled abroad!

It’s separated from Russia by just a river!
Across the river lies Blagoveshchensk, the third-largest city in Russia’s Far East, with the closest point only 750 meters away.
Standing on Heihe’s side, you can see people on the opposite shore with your naked eye, and the sound of square dancing here even carries over to the other side!
If you want to experience northern landscapes, you can also come to Heihe;
It’s a prefecture-level city north of the 50th parallel, the starting point of the Hu Huanyong Line, and a must-pass route for those heading to Mohe.

If you want to escape urban noise and find a place to relax and breathe fresh air, why not visit Heihe?
Here, volcanoes, lakes, and hot springs abound, earning it the nickname “a natural ecosystem disguised as a city.” It’s home to China’s first volcanic park, Wudalianchi, and frost-covered snowscapes rivaling Mohe’s.
If you also have a soft spot for the Northeast, Heihe is worth exploring.
Though its recorded history spans just over 300 years, during this time, people have flocked to this northern frontier:
They were warriors like Sabusu resisting foreign invaders, pioneers braving the journey to the Northeast, heroes of the Anti-Japanese联军 enduring ice and snow, educated youth building the borderlands, and the brave hunting tribe of the Oroqen people…
Heihe has witnessed much of Heilongjiang’s past.
Of course, if you’re a foodie, you won’t be disappointed in Heihe either!
It’s a treasure trove of cuisine—Russian dishes, Northeastern fare, specialty freshwater fish… and countless wild delicacies to feast on, secretly cherished by countless gourmets.

Not only is it close to Russia, but it was once a “global trading hub,” attracting merchants from countless countries and enjoying unrivaled prominence.
Eurasian art and culture blend here, with buildings and streets adorned in beautiful colors and styles, exuding an exotic charm.
Restaurants and shops are hung with bilingual signs in Chinese and Russian, the streets are filled with blond-haired, blue-eyed people, and many ethnic Russians who have lived here for generations.
Take a random photo, and even if you post it on social media claiming it’s Russia, no one would doubt it.
Here, you can enjoy authentic Russian cuisine, sit at a barbecue stall with Russians while eating skewers and drinking beer, glimpse daily life across the river in Russia, and buy genuine Russian goods at "Russian Products Mall."

You can even join a one-day tour group to visit Blagoveshchensk on the opposite shore for a different experience!
You might find it hard to believe, but Heihe is home to over 50 museums, large and small.
Though modest in size, each has its own theme, and stumbling upon them feels like a treasure hunt in the city!
